Terms of use

The terms for using this website and for asking for a tee time, a lesson, a table or a room through it.

Last updated 1 October 2026

About these terms

This website is run by The Averleigh Golf Club Limited, registered in England and Wales, of Averleigh Lane, near Wadhurst, East Sussex TN5 6QX (“the club”). These terms apply to your use of the website and to any request you make through it. By using the website you accept them.

Members are also bound by the club’s rules and bye-laws, which take precedence over these terms for anything they cover.

Using the website

You may use the website for your own, non-commercial purposes. The words, photographs, plans and design are the club’s, and may not be copied or republished without the Secretary’s written permission.

Please do not try to interfere with the website, send anything through its forms that is unlawful or not your own, or make requests in someone else’s name.

Information on the website

We take care to keep the website accurate, but fees, menus, opening times and course conditions change. The course report is a guide, updated each morning, and is not a promise about the state of the course later in the day. Where something matters to your plans, please check with the Secretary’s office.

Visitor tee-time requests

A tee time requested through the website is a request, not a booking. It becomes a booking only when the Secretary’s office confirms it to you in writing, normally by email within one working day. Until then the time is not held for you.

Visitors must hold a handicap index of 24 or better and may be asked to show it. Visitor days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Requests for lessons, tables and rooms work in the same way: each is confirmed by the Golf Studio or the House before it is booked.

Cancelling a confirmed time

You may cancel or change a confirmed visitor time without charge by giving the Secretary’s office at least seven days’ notice, by email to secretary@averleigh.co.uk or by telephone on 01632 960 731.

With less than seven days’ notice, or if fewer players arrive than were confirmed, the club may charge the green fee for each missing player. The club will always try to fill a cancelled time and will not charge for a place it has filled.

Green fees and payment

Green fees are those shown on the website when your time is confirmed. They are payable on the day, before play, at the Golf Studio by card. Where a fee includes lunch in the Long Room, lunch is served on the day of play and cannot be taken another day or refunded if missed.

Closing the course

The club may close the course, or any part of it, or restrict play, at any time because of the weather, frost, waterlogging, maintenance or for safety. This includes temporary greens and tees, buggy restrictions and the hollow-tining of greens in spring and autumn.

If the course is closed on the day of a confirmed visit, the club will offer you another date or refund any green fees you have paid. That is the extent of the club’s responsibility for a closure.

On the day

Visitors and guests play under the club’s rules and the Rules of Golf, keep pace with the game ahead and observe the dress code on the course and in the House. The Secretary or a professional may ask anyone who does not to leave the course, without a refund.

Liability

Golf carries risks of its own. Players are responsible for their own play, for taking care of others on the course, and for any damage or injury they cause. We recommend that every golfer holds personal liability insurance.

Nothing in these terms limits the club’s liability for death or personal injury caused by its negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, the club is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss that could not reasonably have been foreseen, arising from your use of the website or a visit to the club.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version on this page when you make a request is the one that applies to it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you have a concern, please write to the Secretary first; most things are settled quickly that way.
